Well over half the country lives below the poverty line, earning less than $2 a day. The majority Muslim population barely has enough income to provide the essentials of food, clothing and shelter for themselves.
Ummah Welfare Trust supports madrassahs and Islamic efforts here. The charity also undertakes seasonal projects in Gambia, organising Iftaars in Ramadan and offering Qurbani on Eid al-Adha.
