Kaffarah refers to an expiation or atonement that must be performed for certain violations or omissions in Islamic law. It is a form of penalty or compensation to make up for such a transgression.

Types of violations include for which a Kaffarah would be necessary include:

The expiation for this is fasting 60 consecutive days (specific details may vary – please consult a qualified scholar). If one cannot do these fasts due to poor health or old age then one must feed sixty poor persons.[/vcex_icon_box]
